The Rails on the Bus go Round and Round

Yeah not like I don’t have anything else going on, but for some reason it entered my head that I should check out Ruby on Rails. Of course, I’m without a dedicated server at the moment, and while I can justify spending non-chargeable time on investigating a new framework, I can’t really spring for a server on an impulse.

OK, off to Google I go. I’m hosted at Dreamhost, so let’s see what I can find about installing in a shared environment. OK, what’s this… the process is apparently “a wacky little nightmare that I wouldn’t want anyone to have to relive.” Thankfully, things have changed since that document, and lo and behold, the instructions are on the Dreamhost Wiki, and they amount to, basically, “run this script.” Kick. Ass.

Anyway, the framework’s installed now, but I reckon I need to wait a week before playing with it, or, if the stuff’s worthy of the hype it’s been getting, it’ll make the ASP.NET work I need to do this week seem even harder…
